Celebrating over 200 years of invention.
In 1824, the electromagnet was invented.
In 1825, it was first shown in public.
Its invention led to our modern “ELECTRIC” powered society, and modern manufacturing wouldn’t be what it is without it.
That’s why we, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), encourage people to build an electromagnet, and complete the build challenge, in any year.
Celebrate with us this technological marvel and learn how to make an invisible force you can control, plus much more.
This challenge is designed to be fun and fundamental for all students…STEM, non-STEM, and students looking to explore or begin a STEM ED journey.
3 Steps To Complete The Build Challenge:
1. BUILD
Start building by learning some STEM basics related to electromagnets and then you will build one.
Take your first step on a STEM education journey by building an electromagnet today. Discover the FUNdamentals of electromagnetism and harness the power of an invisible force you control. Begin building a visible force for your future with a STEM education in manufacturing.
2. RECORD
Record your working electromagnet by taking a picture or video to share with others on social media.
"Record" your build by taking a picture or video of your working electromagnet to share on social media. Once you complete the electromagnet build challenge by building it, recording it, and sharing it on social media, you can download and print a Certificate of Participation.
3. SHARE
Share your build experience with other STEM learners, builders, and students on social media.
The SHARE IT page is for sharing your build on social media. You may choose to share it on one or many of your favorite social media sites. Building the electromagnet is just the start of an electrifying journey of discovery that awaits you. Don't delay, begin your STEM quest today!
